WE'VE all been feeling the heat this weekend, with temperatures soaring to the mid-20s.

But it is doubtful that any of us parked on double yellow lines as we sought out something to cool us down.

Seeing a policewoman park up in a van to buy a 99, with no regard for traffic regulations, can leave an unpleasant taste.

Not that we would ever want to deny our hard-working bobbies a bit of respite in the heat, but there really is a time and a place.

Buying oneself an ice cream hardly amounts to an emergency or a public service.

And while it’s certain Mr Whippy might be pleased with the ringing endoresement, the ‘Yellow Peril’ might not be as happy.

Let us hope that the officer involved has learnt a valuable lesson and next time doesn’t take advantage of his position for a sneaky scoop or two of vanilla.
