HUNDREDS of people visited open gardens in Headington to raise money for good causes.
About 300 visitors toured 12 gardens which opened for the Friends of Old Headington’s annual Open Gardens on Sunday.
There were also stalls selling plants and cakes, and visitors had the chance to become members of the group.
The money raised is still being counted, but it will be used to support conservation projects and charities.
Veronica Hurst, Friends of Old Headington’s committee chairman, said: “Thanks to the weather and the efforts made by all concerned, there's no doubt that today was a real success. It was lovely to see so many people wandering around the conservation area and telling each other about the highlights of the gardens they visited.”
Catharine Mack Smith, 74, a psychoanalyst, of White Lodge, in Osler Road, has opened her garden for the last four years.
She said: “People pass my gate, look in and say they long to come in and look around.
“My entire garden is at the front of my house. It’s very beautiful with lovely trees and now it has a vegetable garden.”
Her garden includes a handmade “Fragonard swing” – named after the painting The Swing by18th century French painter Jean-Honoré Fragonard.
