PRIME Minister and Witney MP David Cameron visited the new Emergency Multidisciplinary Unit at Witney Community Hospital on Friday to find out how it provides high-quality care closer to patients’ homes.
The unit assesses and treats patients with often complex problems, rather than them needing to go to a major hospital.
Mr Cameron said: “Finding new ways to deliver care that meets people’s needs is exactly what we need to be doing to develop the NHS of tomorrow. Witney EMU is a great example of that.”
The chief executive of Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust, Stuart Bell, said: “We were delighted to welcome the Prime Minister to the unit.
"Patients tell us that they want to be treated closer to home, with the minimum disruption to their lives and to maintain as much independence as possible.
"The EMU supports that by delivering responsive joined-up health and social care, tailored around their needs. We believe this model of care holds great promise for the future."
