A CONSERVATIVE MP has launched a formal complaint against Cowley based charity Oxfam.

Conor Burns, the MP for Bournemouth West, has criticised the charity for an “overtly political” fundraising campaign.

He has complained to the Charity Commission, which is assessing whether it should become involved.

The complaint relates to a campaign blaming welfare cuts for the increased use of food banks.

Oxfam, which was founded in Oxford more than 70 years ago, has said it is “resolutely non-party political”.

It said it has “a duty to draw attention to the hardship suffered by poor people we work with in the UK”.
