LANGFORD’S Open Gardens event on Sunday is extra-special this year, marking the 25th anniversary of residents first showing off their grounds for the National Gardens Scheme (NGS).

And to mark the silver jubilee, 25 private gardens will open to visitors.

They will include the garden created by the late Sir Hardy Amies, the Queen’s former dressmaker, at his former home.

Langford was one of the first villages to open in aid of the NGS and helped to start a new trend away from the gardens at stately homes previously associated with the scheme.

Visitors will also be able to visit the Grade I-listed St Matthew’s Church, which features late Saxon carvings, including the famous Langford Rood.

Home-made teas will be served at two locations in the village and there will be a plant stall.

Entry costs £5 per person, with children under 12 admitted free of charge.
