OXFORD East MP Andrew Smith re-opened the city’s central post office.

It is part of the Post Office’s programme of refurbishment which is being rolled out across the country.

Mr Smith said at Friday’s opening: “I was very impressed. I think it is very well laid out.

“I am sure it will give overall a better service and one which is more satisfactory for the customers.”

The branch, in St Aldate’s, has been redesigned with open-plan counters, self-service kiosks and a private room for consultations on financial services.

It was built between 1878 and 1880.
