A NEW Oxford banner designed by residents will celebrate city architecture, academia and evolution.

Professional London banner maker Ed Hall helped design the standard with Oxford residents in a workshop at Modern Art Oxford on Sunday.

He is now putting the final touches to the masterpiece at home but will unveil the finished product at the gallery on Friday.

There it will form part of a new exhibition of banners and flags.

Mr Hall, who has been a professional banner maker for trade unions since 1984, said: “They asked me to make a banner relating to Oxford and it was very successful.

“We had three people who were there all day and others stopped by throughout the day.

“Everyone was discussing ideas, and I think we’ve ended up with something really interesting.”

He said he had drawn inspiration for the banner from Oxford University’s Museum of Natural History.
