OXFORD High Street will be closed to traffic early tomorrow and Wednesday morning.

The street will be shut from King Edward Street to Catte Street between 3am and 5am both mornings to allow workmen to remove the tower crane that is currently outside Oriel College’s Rhodes Building annexe, opposite the University Church.

The crane was put up in November last year and has been lifting in materials as part of a project to provide more accommodation, better facilities and disabled access.

Oxford Bus Company said the X90 and airline coach services will be disrupted during the closure.

Services will be diverted from Speedwell Street to St Aldate’s, Abingdon Road, Weirs Lane, Donnington Bridge Road and Iffley Road to The Plain where a normal route will resume.
