THE brother of television chef Rick Stein is one of six Oxford University professors to be announced as fellows of the Academy of Medical Sciences.
Professor John Stein, pictured, and colleagues Professors Richard Cornall, Anke Ehlers, Gary A. Ford, Fiona Powrie and Paul Riley were among 44 new Fellows revealed on Friday It recognises their “outstanding contribution” to the advancement of medical science, “innovative application” of scientific knowledge, or “conspicuous service” to healthcare.
Prof Stein focuses research on how vision controls movement.
Prof Cornall aims to understand how the immune system is formed and regulated.
Prof Ehlers’ research focuses on anxiety disorders – in particular post-traumatic stress disorder, social anxiety disorder and panic disorder.
Prof Ford CBE’s research interests include acute stroke therapies and early diagnosis of stroke.
Prof Powrie, researches the interactions between the bacterial intestinal flora and the immune system.
And Prof Riley’s research centres centres on cardiovascular development, repair and regeneration.
They will be formally admitted to the academy at a ceremony on July 2.
