A DECISION is due today on a supermarket’s bid for extended deliveries in Carterton.

Morrisons wants deliveries from 6am to midnight, Monday to Saturday, and 6am to 11pm, on Sundays and bank holidays.

The firm won planning permission from West Oxfordshire District Council in 2012 and opened last November.

But the council ruled it could not deliver stock or handle stock outside the Black Bourton Road store between 11pm and 7am.

Carterton North East district councillor Henry Howard had referred the decision until today’s committee.

His submission said: “When the planning application was approved [the restriction on hours was] imposed (to which they agreed) to prevent noise disturbance. This application seeks to reverse this condition and will no doubt be of great concern to the public.”

The firm, which sought 24-hour deliveries in 2012, said the “modest increase” will make the store more efficient and background noise will “help mask noise from deliveries”.

A council planning officer will give a recommendation to the Lowlands area planning sub-committee at the council offices at Woodgreen, Witney, at 2pm. The public can attend.
