FRENCH visitors cried “bonjour” and “bienvenue” to Oxford as they kicked off twin town celebrations at the Town Hall.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of Oxford being twinned with the French town of Grenoble.
The French town’s deputy mayors Bernard Macret and Pascal Clouaire were welcomed to the city on Saturday.
Oxford Lord Mayor Dee Sinclair said: “It is really important for us to have these links with other cities and to strengthen that bond. It was good to talk about common ground and we managed to overcome the language barriers.”
Grenoble bands Drôle de Swing, Torivaki, Rigodons et Traditions, and Yebarov will take part in the May Morning celebrations this week at Oxford’s Magdalen Tower from 6am.
