Organisers extend Headington Festival to two days
FESTIVAL organisers are planning a bumper weekend of sport, crafts and stalls in Headington.
After 7,000 people turned up to enjoy last year’s festivities in Bury Knowle Park, the organisers have extended this year’s Headington Festival to two days.
And Headington Action hopes this year’s event will bring the community together and encourage more residents to take up sport.
The annual event, taking place on Saturday, May 31, and Sunday, June 1, will include a craft fair and the traditional festival sports day.
Publicity manager Peter West said: “This year we have decided to take the event a bit further and make Headington the focal point of the festival.”
Mr West said: “Last year it was a great success and about 7,000 people turned up.
“Everyone seemed to enjoy it.
“The festival is all about developing the community.”
Headington Action chairman Patrick Coulter said: “The festival has been running for about 10 years. It is generally just a fun day, but this year it has been extended to a two-day event.’’
Mr Coulter added that there are about 30 different community organisations in Headington and he hopes that this summer’s event will give people the chance to meet in an informal setting.
Events will run from 10am until 5pm on the Saturday and from 1pm to 5pm on the Sunday.
Attractions include a food and craft fair on the Saturday morning with stalls selling local produce, and street entertainers and live bands.
There will also be a fun fair in Bury Knowle Park and an ‘odd one out’ competition in the centre of Headington.
Sport activities organised in conjunction with Oxford City Council will take place in Bury Knowle Park on the Sunday.
Anyone wishing to have a stall at the festival should contact the Headington Action committee.
