SHOPPERS found themselves running for their lives as a dinosaur went on the rampage in the city centre.

The life-sized replica of an Australovenator caused screams of terror as well as nervous laughter as it made its way along Cornmarket.

While many scampered out of the way, others stopped to take pictures of the carnivorous theropod.

It was making an appearance to promote a production of Dinosaur Zoo, which is being shown at the New Theatre in George Street.

The show, which ends today, gives the audience a chance to get up close and personal with a wide range of dinosaurs.

Lindsey Chaplin, a “zoo keeper” in the show, said: “It’s been nice for Austra to get out for a bit of fresh air – although there were quite a few meals on wheels opportunities with all the strollers about.

“We’ve had a really good audience so far, they were lots of fun. The reaction of people is absolutely priceless.”

Dinosaur Zoo is suitable for ages three upwards and is at the theatre today at 11am and 2pm.
