FORGET Easter eggs, gingerbread houses were the order of the day for the cast of Hansel and Gretel.

In a two-day workshop put on for the Easter holidays, at The Coach House, Headington, children put on a performance of the fairytale.

Natasha Brock, 32, was the course organiser. She said: “The children were brilliant, they loved it. We looked at the story, decided who would play which characters, wrote the script, made all of the sets and costumes, and then performed it.”

The former primary school teacher, who lives in Cirencester, added: “There were some really talented performers in there.

“It was fantastic.”

Georgia Vanstone, from Barton, played the wicked witch who tries to eat Hansel.

The 10-year-old said: “My favourite bit was probably making the set because I’m an arty person. It was really fun.”

Erin Ewen, nine, of Cutteslowe, played Hansel. She said: “It was fun, but it was a bit scary and weird to play a boy. We had a bit of stage fright, but it was fine in the end.”

Thankfully, Hansel was rescued by the woodcutter, played by seven-year-old Sade McNichols-Thomas, from Headington.
