A deer had to be rescued after it was hit by a vehicle on the A34.

The animal was on the southbound carriageway near Hinksey Hill Interchange shortly after 6.30am yesterday when it was hit. Police were called to the scene and officers closed the second lane of the road to protect the deer from traffic.

It was still alive after it was hit and the road was fully reopened at 9.40am, when wildlife hospital Tiggywinkles arrived and took the deer for treatment.

There were queues back up to Botley roundabout.
