A WOMAN who posted a ‘selfie’ image of her battered face after being attacked at a nightclub had last night raised more than £9,000 for the Oxford Sexual Abuse and Rape Crisis Centre.

Oxford University student Jeanne Marie Ryan, 29, posted a #nomakeup selfie online on Sunday to make a stand against violence.

She had set a target of £100 but after the Oxford Mail covered her story yesterday, it had leapt to more than £9,000.

Miss Ryan said she had been amazed by the support, adding: “I’m just incredibly impressed. It has just made me feel a lot better that something good can come out of this. I wasn’t expecting this at all.”

A spokeswoman from the rape crisis centre said: “We’re overwhelmed by the response to the campaign and would like to give huge thanks to Jeanne Marie for sharing her experience in such a brave way.

Plush Lounge manager Stuart Hayles said: “The entire management team is devastated by what has happened, and our thoughts at this time are with the very brave victim.

“We commend her positive action in showing her injuries and using what was a revolting and unprovoked attack to try and help others by encouraging donations to the Oxford Sexual Abuse and Rape Crisis Centre.

“We have encouraged our staff to donate to that charity on her behalf.”

The club has handed over CCTV footage to police to help track down the man who first groped and then punched Miss Ryan.
