A 20-year-old female student at Oxford University is in a critical condition in hospital after suffering serious injuries in a fall.

Thames Valley Police spokesman Hannah Williams said officers were called to commercial premises in Iffley Road last Friday at about 11.30pm, after being alerted by other emergency services.

She said the woman, who has not been named, fell through a skylight and added: “She was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital with serious injuries and remains there in a critical but stable condition.

“The matter has been referred to the Health and Safety Executive.”

The woman is a student at Mansfield College and a statement issued by the college said: “We can confirm that a student suffered a serious fall on Friday.

“Police and ambulance services were called and the student was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital and remains in a serious condition.

“The student had been with friends in a shared flat on Iffley Road.

“The student’s parents, who naturally want to be with their child, have been accommodated at the college and are being supported by college staff.

“The college has also held a meeting to inform students of the incident and to offer support to the college community at this distressing time.

“The precise circumstances of the accident are still being investigated.”
