Buggies and babies no bar for fitness classes

A NEW fitness class has solved the problem of child care during exercise by incorporating buggies and babies into the session.
Rose Hill’s Buggy Fit class is one of two new free fitness sessions that have launched in Rose Hill on Wednesdays at Rose Hill Community Centre in The Oval.
The sessions are supported by the Rose Hill Lottery Project and Oxford City Council and are part of the county’s GO Active sports scheme, which was set up in 2009 to help people get fit.
Tone and Trim Circuit, a general circuits class, runs from 9.30am until 10.30am, which is followed by Buggy Fitness Circuit from 10.30am until 11.30am.
Iffley mum-of-one Victoria Parry goes to Buggy Fit with her six-month-old daughter Rhiannon.
The 35-year-old said: “It was just a case of going somewhere where she could come with me. This is good because it is near where I live.
“She can come with me and she joined in as well.
“Getting them involved in being active is a good idea. She was having fun.”
Jason Biles, the personal trainer who leads the sessions, said: “For mums they need to look at child care facilities and the cost. You don’t need to do that with this class. It is just ideal.
“We are working inside because the weather is not warm enough at the moment but we do hope to go outside.
“We try, where possible, to integrate the use of buggies with exercises including squats and lunges.
“Currently because we are inside we do a lot of mat work.
“It is nice for the mums to get their tummies back so we are working on that at the moment.
“The classes are really busy. There were 12 for the first class and 11 for the second one.
“It is not just Rose Hill residents but mums from all around.”
Fran Gardner, Rose Hill community worker, said: “It’s great to see so many parents coming to this fitness class.
“Being able to include the children means that everyone can join in, get fit together and have fun "
