PRIMARY school children got to spend the day with a children’s TV celebrity yesterday.

Blue Peter presenter and former Abingdon school girl Lindsey Russell spent the day at the Manor Prep School in Abingdon.

She presented prizes in a poetry competition and cut the ribbon on the school’s new Year Four block.

Ms Russell, who lives near Abingdon, tweeted that she was “very excited” to be spending the day at the school.

The former St Helen and St Katharine School pupil was chosen from 20,000 applicants to become the 36th Blue Peter host in July.

She moved to Oxfordshire from America when she was seven and lives with her parents and two brothers aged 16 and 21.

She studied French and drama at Bristol University and graduated last week with a 2:1.

She had to juggle her finals with the CBBC series Blue Peter – You Decide to see who got the role after being put though her paces by a panel including Eamonn Holmes and Myleene Klass.
