Merlin adds magical touch to art exhibition
10:00pm Friday 28th February 2014 in News
THIS watercolour artist will cast a spell on you.
Merlin Porter can often be found perched at the back of a room at gigs in Oxford, making rapid, vivid portraits of performers.
In his new exhibition, on the top floor of the Art Cafe, Bonn Square, vibrant jazz musicians rub shoulders with the city’s dreaming spires, re-imagined in psychedelic swirls of colour.
And, every Wednesday until the end of the exhibition on March 22, he will be painting live at the cafe, from 12.30pm to 3pm.
Mr Porter said: “I try to capture the beautiful architecture of Oxford and surrounding areas as well as the musicians and performers that grace the stages of venues.”
He was invited to the London Jazz Festival in November, where he painted in the Queen Elizabeth Hall on the South Bank.
