OXFORD’S Botanic Garden will go bananas for the next two weeks.
The High Street site is taking part in Fairtrade Fortnight, including a number of events celebrating Oxford’s Fairtrade City status.
Visitors to the University of Oxford Botanic Garden will be able to find out more about Fairtrade bananas by visiting the greenhouses.
Education officer Emma Williams said: “Fairtrade means farmers get a sustainable wage for their crops.
“The prices of bananas have halved over the last 10 years but costs have doubled, so to enable them to look after the habitat, Fairtrade is making sure they receive a fair wage.”
The Botanic Garden has four banana species, including a pink variety and a savoury one.
