YOUNGSTERS joined in Valentine’s Day fun for a good cause at a fundraising cake sale for Breast Cancer Awareness.

The pre-schoolers from the Sandfield Day Nursery in Headington dressed in bright pink and red T-shirts to sell cakes.

Sofia Billard, three, and Frances Goodliffe, Charlie Lyle-Williams and Rowan Baker, all four, from Oxford, watched nursery staff member Heather Goodwin take part in a sponsored headshave for the charity.

Children and staff also paid tribute to Sue Andrews, a former colleague at the nursery who died from breast cancer in February last year.

Mary Ellis, deputy manager at the nursery, said: “Sue was an inspirational woman because of her work with children, the support she gave staff and her dedicated charity fundraising, right up to her death last year.

“The Sue Andrews Foundation is our tribute to her.”

The nursery also presented a cheque for more than £2,000 in aid of the cancer charity.

Fundraiser Liz Wilson, from Beth’s Pink Ladies, which raises money for Breast Cancer Awareness, picked up the cheque yesterday and said: “Not only has the nursery and its friends raised a fantastic amount of money, they have put the focus on Breast Cancer Awareness in their communities.”
