FUNDRAISERS from the Play2Give organisation are now accepting entries for an annual boy’s football tournament to raise money for the Oxford Children’s Hospital.

There are spaces available for teams in the under-nines and under-10s tournaments for 2014, which will be held on July 13.

All entrants will be given a medal for participating, and the team that raises the most money in sponsorship will win a prize, as well as the team which wins the tournament.

This will be the fifth football fun day that Play2Give has held.

Last year’s games pulled in £4,812.

Play2Give founder Andrew Baker set up the fundraising group to say thank you to the doctors who treated him when he was younger.

Mr Baker, 25, was born with a brain injury and underwent major surgery aged 12 to remove a haematoma in his skull which formed after he was knocked over at primary school.

Mr Baker, from Didcot, said: “The major brain surgery I had aged 12 at the Radcliffe Infirmary is behind my fundraising debt of gratitude to the children's hospital.”

Fellow organiser Dale Harris said: “The tournament is way of actually fundraising without it seeming like hard work for the kids.

“It’s such a fun way for them to do it. It keeps them on their toes and they always have a big smile on their faces.”

Mr Harris’s daughter, Mya, suffers from spina bifida, and has had nearly 30 operations at the Oxford Children’s Hospital.

The 32-year-old from Cowley said: “I like to give back.

“I’ve been fundraising for years, but Play2Give is much more successful,” he added.

Entries are £35 for a team of seven, who must also raise sponsorship. Go to play2give.org.uk for entrance and sponsorship forms.
