AN INDEPENDENT music shop celebrated its third birthday at the weekend.

Truck Store in Cowley Road marked the anniversary that fell on Monday, and to celebrate, held an afternoon of music there on Sunday.

Artists Jordan O’Shea, After the Thought, Sweet William and Toliesel entertained shoppers.

Store manager Carl Smithson said the store has had to focus more on selling vinyl to keep going.

HMV in Cornmarket Street is due to close soon, with no certainty about what will happen to it next.

Mr Smithson said: “We have looked at everything carefully and it is a difficult time in the industry.

“Selling a chart-topping album isn’t going to be enough to sustain us, but offering more specialist stuff like vinyl has been the saviour.

“A lot of indie shops are coming to realise that.

“Sunday was a really good day and lots of people did come out to support us.”

The revamped in-store cafe is set to reopen tomorrow.
