CHARLOTTE Nott had more than one reason to celebrate her sixth birthday yesterday, after taking big steps towards recovery from surgery last year.

Mum Jenny Daniels said the youngster – who had the lower parts of her arms and legs amputated after contracting meningitis as a baby – had been finding it difficult to walk following three operations for a bone infection.

But she said her daughter walked out of Horspath CofE Primary School yesterday on her new artificial legs before she got home to unwrap presents at her Brasenose Driftway, Oxford, home.

Miss Daniels said: “It is nice to see Charlotte well in herself and having a really nice day. She has not been walking at all since she had her three operations.

“It was a nice surprise to see her walk out of school. It was very memorable.”

The 32-year-old said Charlotte received craft materials because drawing and writing were her talents at school.

She said: “Charlotte likes making things and doing things. She is always very busy. She does not sit down, she always wants to do stuff.

“She is definitely not held back. She is always getting certificates at school for her drawing.”

The youngster is due to have an MRI scan on Friday to see if the bone infection has cleared up or not.
