FOUR men have gone on trial at Oxford Crown Court accused of “street violence” and using metal chairs as weapons during a brawl outside an Oxford takeaway.
Adam Doyle, 27, of Ladder Hill, Wheatley, Andre Hurst, 25, of Broad Street, Banbury, Waqas Khan, 20, of Furlong Close, Oxford, and Dexter Williams, 24, of Coriander Way, Greater Leys, deny one count of violent disorder and one of possessing offensive weapons at the Taste of Jamaica, in Cowley Road, Littlemore.
Robert Spencer-Bernard, prosecuting, said a man pulled up in a grey BMW while three of the defendants were buying food inside the takeaway at around 7.30pm on July 29 last year.
He told a jury at Oxford Crown Court that the man got out of the car carrying a baseball bat and smashed the business’s glass door, causing Hurst, Khan and Williams to pick up metal chairs and run outside where the fight then took place.
Giving evidence the owner of the Taste of Jamaica, Sandia Hind, said: “It happened so quickly, I started screaming and they just rushed outside to the man with the baseball bat.”
The trial continues.
