ANYONE visiting Oxford’s Town Hall this weekend could be excused for thinking they had stepped back in time.

The city centre venue played host to a vintage fair on Saturday featuring items from the 1940s to the 1990s.

The fair featured more than 50 stalls of fashion, accessories, homeware and jewellery.

There was also a “tea party” with cakes and tea in fancy china and a beauty parlour.

Hertfordshire tea shop owner Sacha Leake, 43, said the town hall had made a “beautiful” location for the event. She said: “I make extra big Mad Hatter tea party-style cakes and they went down very well. The queue for teas was out of the doors at one point and we went through all 400 of our cups and saucers.

“What was nice was two girls volunteered to help with the washing up and so we paid them in cakes. It was a lovely day. I do a lot of events, but the town hall was easily the most beautiful building I have had my shop in.”

Visitor Sarah Benning, 43, who runs a vintage business in Swindon, said: “I like everything vintage anyway and I have been to these fairs before. It was great, there were lots of bargains and great vintage clothes.”
