ELECTRICAL works in Ferry Hinksey Road, Oxford, are expected to last for the rest of the day.

Despite saying it was hoped they would be finished this morning Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) has now said workers still haven't found the fault.

A spokesman said they were still looking for the problem with an underground cable which was affecting about 70 customers.

Those customers all had power restored yesterday morning but works caused major delays to commuters during both the morning and evening rush hours.

In order to safely access electric cables, the firm has had to switch off permanent traffic lights by the bridge at the junction with Ferry Hinksey Road, and is using temporary traffic lights.

Spokesman Neil Anderson said: "Repairs will be ongoing today as we are still trying to locate the fault on the cable. Traffic lights will remain in place for the rest of today, but no customers are off right now. We want to take this opportunity to apologise to affected customers and thanks for patience."
