BERNADETTE Neil hit the nail on the head when she told David Cameron emergency workers had done all they could to protect her home from flooding but they could not fight nature.

Hundreds of people across this county have, and continue to, work tirelessly to minimise the effect of the flooding this week but there is a growing feeling they are fighting almost with one arm tied behind their collective back.

Flooding that badly affects this city and council is almost becoming an annual event.

As valiant as the work of the public sector has been, the Government needs to start providing proper infrastructure that means we don’t have to press this army into service.

After every flood we are promised new protective measures and while they have some small benefits, we can’t go on with large parts of this city cut off for days at a time.
