A MAN suffering from paranoid schizophrenia has been sectioned after he bit someone and dragged them through broken glass.

Daniel Wilson, of no fixed address, was made subject to hospital and restriction orders under the mental health act yesterday at Oxford Crown Court.

The 33-year-old was arrested after he visited a house in Gloucester Place, Witney, on December 12, 2012, and threatened Kirk Mortimer with a brick before attacking him.

Judge Gordon Risius said Wilson had been trying to scare his victim into leaving the property.

He said to the defendant: “You had visited your victim’s home, accused him of theft and threatened him with a brick, which, it is alleged, you hit him on the head with on three occasions.

“You do not accept this, but you do accept dragging him over some broken glass on the floor and biting him.

“At the time you had not been taking your medication.”

Wilson was also sentenced for headbutting PC Craig Vaughan after he had been arrested and interviewed by police at Abingdon Police Station.

Judge Risius said Wilson had done this because he was upset about having to return to his cell.

John Waller, defending, said his client had been in custody since he was arrested and did not object to the hospital order being made.

He said: “Mr Wilson realises that he does have a problem and that he does need help.”

Wilson will now be detained at the Littlemore Mental Health Centre in Oxford until he is assessed to no longer pose a danger to himself or others.
