OXFORD Health Walks are relaunching this month and organisers are looking for volunteers to lead them.

They are part of the government-led Walking for Health initiative which has recently been taken on by Macmillan Cancer Support and The Ramblers.

As part of this relaunch Oxford City Council is looking for enthusiastic walkers to train as volunteer leaders.

City councillor Mark Lygo, executive board member for parks, sport and events, said: “Health walks are great for people to get out in the open air, get some exercise and meet some new people.”

Health walks consist of a one-mile route which is suitable for those new or returning to exercise.

Current health walks will continue in Summertown on Tuesdays, Hinksey Park on Wednesdays and Bury Knowle Park on Fridays, all meeting at 10am.

The city centre walk will be relaunching as Countryside and Cobbles, a health walk that meets at the Town Hall in St Aldate’s.

There will also be a new monthly walk starting this month which will meet at 10am on the first Thursday of every month at the bottom of Headington Hill Park.

All the walks are free to attend and welcome all ages and abilities. There is no need to book.
