TWO families will spend Christmas away from home as a result of flooding caused by a burst water main in Cassington.

Residents have reported their homes being hit by a “wave of water” after the water main burst in the West Oxfordshire village.

Now Thames Water has admitted a total of 11 houses were affected by the incident on Friday night, and said two families will not return to their homes before Christmas.

Nick Harverson, who lives in Hollow Furlong, Cassington, said: “We were hit by a wave of water.

“We were in the house and suddenly there was a pool of water under our feet.

“Now we’re having to live out of our kitchen.

“We are supposed to be having guests coming for Christmas so we don’t know what we are going to do.”

Thames Water spokesman Becky Trotman said: “Eleven properties were affected by the flooding but not all of them had water inside their houses.

“For one or two it was in their garages rather than the house.

“The residents of two of the properties had to move out and unfortunately won’t be back in their properties this side of Christmas.

“Both are ground-floor flats.

“In most cases, damage was done to carpets and sofas.

“We had teams with drying equipment at the properties on Saturday morning and the repair to the 24in water main that caused the problem was finished last night.”
