Former filling station could become nine flats

FLATS could soon be built on the site of a former filling station in Oxford’s Abingdon Road.

Sterling Developments has submitted a planning application to build nine flats on the site next to the former Fox and Hounds pub, which is being converted into a Tesco Express store.

The site of the former filling station was sold by Tesco, which has already started building the supermarket on the corner of Weirs Lane.

The site would become three one-bedroom flats, three two-bedroom flats and three three-bedroom flats.

In the application, Sterling Developments said: “There is an acknowledged shortfall in the supply of housing.

“This site offers the real potential to provide nine dwellings that will in a small way go towards addressing this issue.”

A decision will be made by city councillors at a date to be fixed.

Good - what a waste of land having it sitting there strewn with weeds.

Lets hope Oxford City Council don't try and halt the redevelopment of the site by imposing ridiculously high contributions which will make the scheme unviable.

They won't need many parking spaces, with at least ten buses per hour into the city centre, and direct buses to Oxford Station, the JR Hospital, the Business Park, Howbery Park, Milton Park and Harwell. Flats here would be ideal for workers taking up new jobs in the Science Vale who didn't fancy blowing several £k a year on a car.

I thought the Tesco being built had apartments above it as well?. The reason why it was accepted in the 1st place. Will there be 'reserved' parking spaces in the Tesco Car Park for them, and the 9 flats??.
