FIVE airmen who died in plane crashes around Chipping Norton during the Second World War were commemorated in a special service.

Members of the town’s branch of the Royal British Legion, along with three representatives of 136 Squadron Air Training Corps, laid wreaths at St Peter’s Church in Little Rissington, where the men are buried, on Armistice Day, November 11.

They also remembered 16-year-old cadet George ‘Kenny’ Stone, who died in a mid-air collision during a training flight in 1943.

The names of the airmen were read out and a minute’s silence was observed.
