STUDENTS are preparing their own rendition of “Springtime for Hitler” in a new theatrical production of hit comedy film The Producers.
The musical – based on Mel Brooks’ 1968 movie – tells the story of two theatre producers who plan to get rich quick by overselling interests in a total flop. But the resulting production – Springtime for Hitler: A Gay Romp with Adolf and Eva at Berchtesgaden – turns out to be a smash hit.
Stephen Hyde plays nervy Lee Bloom – immortalised on screen by Gene Wilder – opposite Jack Herlihy, played by Zero Mostel.
Merton College music student Mr Hyde, 20, said: “The biggest selling point is that it is so funny – absolute entertainment at its absolute best.”
