Backing for court veils
10:30am Wednesday 18th September 2013 in News
An Oxford representative of the Muslim Community has said that women should be allowed to wear a veil in court.
Dr Hojjat Ramzy, director of the Oxford Islamic Information Centre, made his comments following the ruling by London judge Peter Murphy that a Muslim woman must remove her niqab veil whilst giving evidence in court.
Dr Ramzy said: “In the interests of preserving the freedoms of religion and expression in UK she should not be forced to remove it, just as no one should be forced to wear it.”
