STAFF at the Ashmolean Museum are hoping tomorrow’s Live Friday event will reel in the visitors.

Earlier this year, the attraction in Beaumont Street launched the monthly series of late-night openings and the latest evening, Exposed!, focuses on film photography, through the use of Lomography cameras, SLRs and instant cameras.

And activity stations with the Ashmolean’s head of photography David Gowers and head of conservation Daniel Bone will give visitors an insight into the way photography is used in the museum.

Mr Gowers, who has worked for the museum for the past 15 years, said: “We photograph antiquities and works of art, usually for publications or academic research.

“Tomorrow night we are going down the traditional photography route.

“There’s so much digital photography around these days that it’s a nice opportunity to look back at the old methods, which some people still prefer.”

Exposed! will also host an exhibition of four local photographers and artists who have been invited by the museum to capture Oxford scenes.

Photos in the exhibition, entitled Seeing Oxford in a Different Light, by Oxford Mail photographers Marc West and Ed Nix, will be unveiled Visitors can also hear a talk by Richard Ovenden, deputy librarian at the Bodleian Library, on its collection of early photography.

The free evening runs from 7pm to 10.30pm.
