MORE than 100 college staff protested against Government cuts to higher education and threats of redundancy.
Teachers and staff at Oxford and Cherwell Valley College staged the action at the college’s Oxpens Road site yesterday. The protest was held by the University and College Union (UCU) and UNISON members.
Roy Bentley, UCU branch chairman and a teacher at the college, said: “We wanted to show the public that we care about the future of education in Oxford and Oxfordshire.”
Sally Dicketts, principal of Oxford and Cherwell Valley College Group, said: “Nationally there has been a reduction in Government funding and all colleges are required to achieve more with less. Fortunately, we are not as badly affected by the cuts as many colleges, but we are likely to lose some posts.”
