TWO Oxfordshire buildings have won top awards for their designs.

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) today announced that the Bishop Edward King Chapel at Ripon College, in Cuddesdon, and the west wing of Oxford’s Said Business School each won a national architecture award.

The chapel, designed by Niall McLaughlin Architects and the business school’s west wing, by Dixon Jones, officially opened by Prince Charles in February, are two of three buildings in the south of England to receive awards.

RIBA president Angela Brady said: “The RIBA Awards set the standard for great architecture in the UK, so it is wonderful to see three national award winners in the south. These are projects that represent architectural excellence on a national level, projects that go beyond the brief and exceed the client’s expectations.

“Investing in good design for our towns and communities is vital. Even in hard times we must continue to create vibrant and inspiring buildings and places for future generations to use and enjoy.”
