Sunbury and Walton Sea Cadets are toasting another 21 years after being given a new lease on their building.
The TS Black Swans’ new lease at their base in Shepperton was granted by Walton Charity, who own the site where they have been for 70 years, competing in rowing, canoeing and sailing.
The sea cadets and the charity have worked together to meet both their charitable aims for the good of the community.
Jackie Lodge, chief executive of Walton Charity, said: “Walton Charity is delighted to have agreed a long-term lease which will enable the sea cadets to plan with certainty for the future.
“The sea cadets provide much needed facilities and activities for local children, and we look forward to continuing to work with them.”
Gail Cramp, chairman of the sea cadets, said: “With a good-length lease in place, we can start to plan for upgrading the facilities, and encourage more young people to benefit from being a sea cadet.”
The sea cadets is open to anyone aged 10-18 years old who wants to have fun, meet new friends and enjoy all kinds of boating, adventurous activities and the Duke of Edinburgh award.
The group is also looking for adult instructors in canoeing, sailing and powerboat training, as well as an administrator.
