A MOTHER and daughter from Oxfordshire are taking part in a cycle ride around Cuba to raise money and awareness for cancer charities.

Liz Micklewright, 53, and her daughter Olivia, 21, of Stratford Drive, Eynsham, will take part in the Women V Cancer Cycle Cuba event from October 21-29. The challenge involves five days of cycling for a distance of around 400 kilometres across the Caribbean island.

Liz and Olivia are taking on the feat in memory of Liz’s mother, Jackie, who died of ovarian cancer in 1994, aged 55. They are aiming to raise £7,000 between them, which will be divided evenly between Breast Cancer Care, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action.

The pair have raised about half their target so far and future planned fundraisers include a bag-packing day at Sainsbury’s in Witney, a virtual horse racing evening and a ball at the Witney Lakes Resort on May 17.

Liz said: “Olivia and I have wanted to do something to raise awareness of ovarian cancer and when we saw this cycle ride advertised we decided it was the right thing for us because not only could we raise awareness, but also funds.”
