Student housing plans thrown out

PROPOSED student housing along Cowley Road has been thrown out by Oxford City Council, despite East Oxford residents writing in support of the plans.

The applicant M Kandola wanted to change the use of number 229 to a 13-bedroom student house and build two flats in the land behind numbers 231 and 233.

But the city council’s west area planning committee decided to refuse planning permission on Wednesday on the basis that they would result in the loss of a self-contained house and the flats would not provide good quality housing.

In a report to the committee a council officer said the layout of the flats would be “cramped and congested, with small rooms that would not allow reasonable furnishings, circulation space, natural light and outlook”.

Couldn't make it up could you. When residents WANT something it is refused when they don't want it the plans get the go ahead. Have these idiots on the planning committees forgotten who it is they serve ?

Have to agree with the council on this one - the plans show flats with only 2 small external windows, can't be great to live in one of those.

There is support by residents and then there is calculated support by residents.
