KINGHAM Hill School pupil Danika Quick found herself left holding the posy after the Queen was taken ill.

Danika was picked to present the flowers after she and seven fellow pupils were invited to join the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh at a service celebrating Commonwealth Day at Westminster Abbey on Monday last week.

Thirteen-year-old Danika was allowed to keep the flowers after the monarch missed the service.

She has since written to the Queen to say how much she missed meeting her and to wish her a speedy recovery.

The Kingham Hill pupils were invited to the service after taking part in this year’s Commonwealth Essay Competition, which had the theme of enterprise.
