Power cut to continue into this evening

HOMES will be without power until this evening after a fault hit just over 1,000 properties.

Southern Electric Power Distribution said a fault in the underground network hit the Summertown area at 9.57am today. More than 500 homes were rerouted and power restored within 20 minutes, but 200 houses are still affected.

A spokesman said mobile generators were being brought in and power should be restored to the remaining homes by the early evening.

He said: “We would like to apologise to customers affected by this interruption today.

“Our engineers are doing everything they can to restore the supply as quickly and safely as they can.”

He said an investigation will be launched to find the cause of the fault.

The Oxford Nursery in Marston Ferry Road is also amongst those affected.
