CONSULTANCY firm EC Harris has been chosen to spearhead Oxford City Council’s £8m revamp of its five tower blocks.

Each of the 1960s high-rises in Wood Farm, Northway, Cowley and Blackbird Leys will be refurbished.

The decision is expected to be ratified on March 21.

Yikes!

I thought a figure of £8m sounded familiar. Back in 2007 it was reported that £8.2m was to be spent to bring the flats up to standard by 2010.

So a further £8m is required to be spent prior to their previously published planned demolition by 2020...

That's £16.2m spent on 348 homes that aren't exactly aspirational and with a defined lifespan in the space of 7 years.

Another classic budget decision by the incompetent idiots at Oxford City Council.

Heaven forbid they ever run their own businesses - they'd be bankrupt and have HMRC chasing them in under 12 months..

What are you moaning about - someone must have voted for Labour in 2010! Quite frankly, this is a disgusting waste of public money, by a City Council with a terrible track-record of maintaining and improving the housing stock it already owns. I'm only surprised City Council favourites GreenSquare hasn't already been offered the rebuilding jobbie.
