RUGBY UNION: Former London Welsh team manager Scott banned for life

LONDON Welsh’s former team manager Mike Scott has been given a life ban from any involvement in rugby union.

Scott, who left Welsh in December, admitted “providing false and misleading information to the RFU” in order to register scrum half Tyson Keats.

An RFU statement said: “Mike Scott was today suspended from the management, coaching or playing of rugby union and membership of any club for life following an RFU Misconduct Hearing.

“The former London Welsh team manager may not apply for the order to be lifted for 10 years.”

A separate RFU hearing, which led to Welsh being deducted five points and fined £15,000 for the Keats’ registration error, learned how Scott had falsified documents and lied to both his employers and the RFU regarding his actions.

The RFU statement continued: “He was charged with under RFU Rule 5.12 with conduct prejudicial to the interests of the Union or the Game for providing false and misleading information to the RFU in order to obtain Effective Registration of a player, Tyson Keats, earlier this season.

“The case was dealt with by His Honour Judge Jeff Blackett on papers and without a personal hearing at Scott's request. He accepted the allegation and submitted a written plea of mitigation. He has 14 days in which to appeal.”
