THE journey home was livened up for Oxford shoppers and workers as they were invited to get involved in a dance installation.

The event at Bonn Square was a prelude to the Dancin’ Oxford festival, which started yesterday.

The installation, created by artists Neil C Smith and Naomi Morris, allowed two strangers to move together from opposite sides of the square – with their moves captured, merged and manipulated, then projected onto a nearby building.

Claire Thompson, founder of Dancin’ Oxford, said: “This installation is a wonderful way for people of all ages to have fun with dancing.

“By moving in front of the camera you can control the image projected on to the screen and also alter the soundtrack playing.

“It really makes Bonn Square come alive.”

Among those taking part was dance student Susanito Babe Jr, 19, pictured, from Barton, who was on his way home from classes at Oxford and Cherwell Valley College.

He said: “It was just a different experience really, and it was really fun. I was impressed by the other dancers. They were really good.”
