Shake a leg at O'Neill's for world record attempt for Irish jigging

BUDDING Michael Flatleys are being invited to join a jig in the centre of Oxford next month.
Inspired by performances such as Riverdance, O’Neill’s in George Street is joining in a Guinness World Record attempt on Thursday, March 14, at 8pm.
It is part of the pub chain’s attempt to break the world record for the most people Irish dancing at one time, which stands at 10,036.
The record attempt will take place across all 49 of their pubs and comes ahead of St Patrick’s Day celebrations on Sunday, March 17.
Getting ready for the record attempt are manager of O’Neill’s in Oxford Eamon O’Sullivan, Liz McCarthy of Oxford’s Flanagan School of Dance, Shannon Prior from Oxford, a dancer with the school, pub assistant manager Shannon Doherty, Peter West, fundraiser for Oxford charity Helen and Douglas House, and Miss Prior’s dad Andy Prior.
Mr O’Sullivan, 39, is looking forward to the challenge.
He said: “We really want the people of Oxford to join us to help smash the world record and have great fun at the same time.”
Those wishing to take part in the event should arrive at the pub from 7pm. The world record attempt will start at 8pm sharp and last for five minutes.
All proceeds from sales of St Patrick’s Day hats on the night will go to Helen and Douglas House hospice in Magdalen Road, East Oxford.
