Robber was late for court

A ROBBER has been remanded in custody to await sentencing after arriving late to Oxford Crown Court.

Angela Birch, of North Way, Headington, said she was half-an-hour late to her 10am hearing yesterday because she had to find someone to look after her dog.

The 39-year-old, who admits a robbery in Oxford on April 30 last year, was remanded until March 25.

And the sad thing is she has probably received a harsher sentence (remand until March 25th) for being late to court than she ever would have received for the burglary. Waste of money remanding her for so long for being late simply because it put a magistrates nose out of place.

If her case was at the Crown Court, she would have been referred there by magistrates who thought their powers of sentencing were insufficient. She is likely to receive a longer jail term.

The following was in the Oxford Mail 11 years ago: "Angela Birch, 28, of Wood Farm Road, Oxford, was arrested after failing to appear before magistrates." No doubt it was that wretched dog's fault.

Just as well she didn't have to catch a number 16 or 17 bus, then!
