Thug jailed for assaulting two teenagers

ASSAULTING two young teenagers while drunk has landed a repeat offender in jail.
Damian Garlick, of Elder Way, Greater Leys, Oxford, was sentenced to 12 months in prison at Oxford Crown Court yesterday for an attack on December 29 last year.
It was the 21-year-old’s third offence since he was handed a suspended sentence of eight months on March 29 last year for inflicting actual bodily harm on his sister.
He arrived at the Seacourt Bridge Inn, in Botley, for a family birthday at around 11.45am and began drinking heavily, the court heard.
After allegedly being subjected to drunken abuse from his mother, Garlick went to have a cigarette outside with his father.
Nearby two boys, aged 13 and 15, were waiting at a bus stop. Garlick appeared to become angry because of something they had done.
Garlick, who was described as “incoherently drunk”, approached the pair, grabbed them by their throats and shoved them against the shelter.
The two boys struggled with their attacker, sustaining bruises, until his dad dragged him off, the court heard.
Tom Davidson, defending, said Garlick had a history of becoming enraged and acting violently because of problems with his family.
Judge Patrick Eccles handed him two three-month sentences for two counts of assault by beating, to run at the same time. He also gave him to one month in prison for criminal damage, after he urinated on the floor of his cell in St Aldate’s police station, and eight months for activating his suspended sentence.
